Reed Barton and Son, Inc.
In 1974 Larry Dunn offered Reed the opportunity to join
as a partner in his highway contracting company to utilize
his experience and reputation in the business. Reed
declined the partnership, but agreed to work for Larry if
he could purchase a machine and work it on Larry's
projects. Reed continued to work for Larry until Larry
began to have trouble financially. Reed brought his Austin
Western motor grader back to the Anna, Texas area, and
began to look for work. As he began to find and win new
customers and projects, He soon needed and purchased a
Caterpillar Dozer. He then hired his father Albert Reed
Barton, who was also very well known as a finish grader operator. In 1983
Reed's business had grown to
several pieces of Caterpillar equipment, Billy Barton, Reed's son, joined the
growing company full time as
an equipment operator. In 1992 Reed brought Billy in as a partner. In
2002 they incorporated the business.
Billy is the 4th generation of Bartons to be involved in this industry. Reed
has sustained this company by
hard work, experience, conservative living, and not compromising his
principals.
Henry David Andrew
Barton
May 15, 1872 - August 11, 1934
Henry came to North Texas from the Granbury area,
to help build a railroad near Denison, Texas. He was
known for his ability to train and work horses. He
worked building trestles and operating horse drawn
earth moving equipment. He also at one time ran a
freight wagon from Van Alstyne, to Sherman, Texas.
Albert
Reed Barton
October 23, 1911 - March 6, 2004
Reed like several of his brothers, followed his fathers footsteps,
in the excavating and paving industry. Reed and his brothers
worked together on many projects and jobs. They started in the
days of mule and horse drawn equipment, later to witness the age of
steam, gas, and diesel powered equipment. Reed worked for many
companies in his career, such as: Zackery, Austin, L.H. Lacy,
Adams Brothers, Shelemberger, and many others in the Sherman
and Dallas area. After a short retirement he went to work for
his son Reed, and worked as long as he was able.
Reed
Bryan Barton, President
Reed has been involved in the construction of building
sites,
streets, and state highways since 1954, excluding 4 years of
service in the United States Air Force. During this time he
has gained a great deal of experience in positions from
roller operator, to finish motor grader operator, to supervisor.
Since 1974 he has been self employed as a subcontractor and
general contractor in the construction of building site preparation,
city streets, state highways, and residential and commercial
development. He has gained a great deal of experience in building
and operating his company for 35 years. Reed is still very active
in the day to day operation and supervision of his company.
Billy
Barton, VP
Billy has had extensive experience as a lifelong employee
and
owner of Reed Barton and Son, starting out as a laborer at the
age of 16 to his present position as Vice President. Billy has
gained a great deal of experience in the industry with training
from his father and grandfather. He continues to carry on the
tradition of Quality, Value, and Integrity that their customers
have come to expect. Billy, his wife Tracy of 25 years, two
daughters and son-in-law are life long residence of the
Van Alstyne, Texas area.
